You can find Salida right on the border of San Joaquin County, although it belongs to Stanislaus County. In 2014, Salida was home to 13,722 habitants. Within its boundaries you will find many specialty shops, and a couple technical institutes such as Heald, and San Joaquin Valley College. If you come into Salida’s downtown you will notice just how small the town truly is, especially under the shadow of its sister city Modesto. There are annual festivities that occur in Salida that are family friendly like the Town & Country Parade and Festival and the Salida Safety Fair. The Town& Country festival offers the traditional vendors, food and games for the entire family and takes place every 4th Saturday of August and is organized by the Salida Civic council. The Salida Civic Council volunteers take on a big role year after year and help organize fundraisers like spaghetti feeds, yard sales and golf tournaments in order to give back to the community. The lucky recipients of their yearlong efforts are the children that get to experience Camp Taylor, and receive gifts through the holidays. The Salida Safety Fair is a great information filled day where the Salida Municipal Advisory Council (MAC), Salida Fire Department, Stanislaus Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, and Salida County Library do their part in sharing valuable safety information with the public. The fire, police, and sheriff departments do their respective demonstrations as well as ambulances, helicopters and bomb squad demonstrations, but what good is a fair without some good food booths, so they have some there too.
