The Cowboy Capital of the World was founded in 1871 as a quaint community resting in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and is 90 miles to the popular San Francisco Bay and 90 miles to the stunning Yosemite State Park. It offers museums, major grocery stores, and great food options. Whichever route you decide to take to drive into Oakdale, you soon become a bit envious of the lush green fields, the spacious ranches and relaxed lifestyle that only Oakdale can provide. You can also take a short drive to any casino, Columbia State Historic Park, New Melones Lake Marina, and Knights Ferry. Within Oakdale city limits, there are numerous parks (including pet friendly parks), Gold Country Sport Fishing, Sierra Railroad and Dinner train, and many specialty stores. Oakdale also used to be home to one of the Hershey Chocolate & Confectionary Co. that eventually gave root to the Oakdale Chocolate Festival. This festival is complete with over200 vendors, unique arts and crafts, and of course plenty of chocolate to go around. This event is held in the middle of May and showcases many classic cars, lots of entertainment, activities for the kids, and even a mechanical bull for all the cowboys and girls! This great event provides revenue for many Oakdale businesses and non-profit organizations.
